The word ‘Vara’ means boon. According to legend, Goddess Lakshmi herself explained the importance of this vratam to a pious woman named Charumathi in her dream. By observing it with devotion, one can receive eight forms of wealth—known as Ashta Lakshmis, including prosperity, health, courage, education, strength, progeny, and victory.
