Among all the gods he is the easiest to be pleased, that's why he is also called as “Bhola Shankar”. People fast on Mondays to please Lord Shiva for the boon of wealth, prosperity, marriage, relief from various diseases and overall happiness.

There is a famous type of fast observed to please Lord Shiva called ‘16 Somvar Fast’. It starts on Monday from Shukla Paksha (bright period of the moon). These fasts are most fruitful when started in the month of Shravan (July – August). Shravan month is the most auspicious period because Lord Shiva drank the most powerful poison which came out of Samudhra Manthan process to save the entire universe.

Fasting process starts with sunrise and lasts till sunset. Devotees wear white clothes and do puja to Lord Shiva with Gangajal, milk or curd and white flowers. They present and seasonal fruits. During the fast , devotees consume only water, juice or fruits. In case of any health problems where fast is not possible, devotees can consume fruits. After the sunset, devotees pray to Lord Shiva and consume food.

Always chant Lord Shiva’s mantra “OM NAMAH SHIVAYA” during the puja and fasting process. It is the most powerful mantra as it is infused with positive energy. It is also called the Five-Syllable mantra.

Monday fast or Somvar Vrat is also done to get rid of health problems and diseases by reciting the “MAHAMRITYUNJAYA Mantra” 108 times. The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is a verse of Rigveda which is also called Rudra Mantra or Tryambakam Mantra which is as follows:

Mrityurmokshaya Mamratat

Lord Hanuman is known for his strength and his weapon is Gada, it consists essentially of a spherical head mounted on a shaft with a spike on the top. Lord Hanuman is also called as “Chiranjeevi” (the immortal), “Bajrangbali”, “Anjani Putra” and “Maruti”. He is the destroyer of all the evil. Devotees fast on Tuesdays to impress Lord Hanuman.

Devotees believe that fasting on Tuesdays would please Lord Hanuman. He shall bless the devotees with strength, win over enemies, win in litigations, betterment of health, overcome fear of evil, reduce the bad effects caused by the planet Mars or Mangal. Mangalvar Vrat is also observed for the purpose to have a son too.

Fasting process starts with sunrise and lasts till sunset. Devotees wear red clothes and first do puja to Lord Ganesh then followed by Lord Hanuman with red flowers. Devotees Present and seasonal fruits. Mangalvar Vrat Katha or Hanuman Chalisa or Hanuman Ashtak can be recited during Puja and fasting period.

During the fast devotees consume only water, juice or fruits. In case of any health problems if the fast is not possible then devotees can consume fruits during the fast. After the sunset, devotees pray to Lord Hanuman and consume food. The food should contain Wheat and Jaggery, but salt should be avoided at any cost.

Lord Hanuman’s Beej mantra is recited 108 times to get relief from troubles, gain stamina, power and strength which is as follows:

Shri Ram Dootaye Namah”

“Hang Pawan Nandanaya Swaha”

This Hanuman mantra is recited 21000 times to get rid of evil spirits or any other type of disturbances or cure any type of illness which is as follows:

Tuesday (Subramanya Swamy)

Generally, Tuesday is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, but there are people in South India who worship Subramanya Swamy on Tuesday.

Subramanya Swamy is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He is known by other names as “Muruga”, “Skanda”, “Karthikeya”, “Shanmuga”. Lord Murugan is considered as the Tamil God and is extremely worshipped all over the Tamil Nadu state. Subramanya Swamy is considered as unique Godhead with a rare combination of the Warrior God, Supreme Divine Intelligence and matchless valor. He can lead one towards spiritual evolution and as the core of all the divine energies.

People fast on Tuesdays to please Lord Muruga to get rid of Karmic bondage, reduce the bad effects caused by the planet Mars or Mangal. For best results, devotees do this Vrat for 9 to 10 Tuesdays.

Fasting process starts with sunrise and lasts till sunset. Devotees do puja to Lord Muruga by lighting lamps, offering red flowers. presenting and Panchamirtham (Mixture of 5 Items), Fruits, Sweets, etc. Kandha Shasti Kavasam (Sacred Muruga Hymn) is recited during Puja and fasting period.

Fasting process starts with sunrise and lasts till sunset. Devotees do puja to Lord Ganesha by offering Sandalwood, Red Sandalwood, Sindoor,, Durva, Laddu and Flowers. Goddess Durga should be worshipped along with Lord Ganesha. Devotees offer Vermilion (Cinnabar), Durva Mala and Laddu to Lord Ganesha. Laddus are favourite dish to Lord Ganesha.

Devotees also worship cow and feed her Chapathi mixed with Jaggery on Wednesdays. Devotees donate items like Green Cloth, Ghee, Bronze, Copper, Mishri to poor people.

If we leave out our egoism and desires for worldly things and pray whole-heartedly to Lord Venkateswara’s Lotus feet, he will take care of everything. Lord Venkateswara is known to be a loving god and loves his bhaktas ardently.There is a famous type of fast observed to please Lord Venkateshwara called ‘Saptha Shanivara Vratham’ or ‘Sri Venkateshwara Swami Seven Saturday Vratam’. By doing this Vratam, Lord Venkateshwara will protect devotees from all sorts of calamities. Number seven means seven hills of Venkateshwara that will provide protection from all the sides.

The Sunday fasting should begin on the first Sunday of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) of Ashwin month. Fasting process starts with sunrise and must fast for the whole day on the vrat and conclude the fast only on the next day morning after seeing the sun and offering water to sun god. Devotees wear red clothes and offer red flowers while worshipping. An idol of sun god is placed on the altar and worship is offered with incense, sandal wood, flowers and specially prepared dishes. During the fast observers should not consume oily, salty and citric foods.

Those who fast on Sundays shall be released from their sins and will attain good health and happiness. Various ailments and diseases shall be cured and will get a sharp and clear intellect. People who observe this vrat throughout their lives enter surya lok after their death.

Sunday vrat Katha should be recited or read during worship. Sun God’s mantra to recite during puja and fasting period which is as follows:

“Nama Suryaya Santaya Sarvaroga Nivarine,
Ayu Rarogya Maisvairyam Dehi Devah Jagatpate”

The Surya Beej Mantra has the power to bring positivity, healing power to cure diseases and ability to create a life of abundance. Divine grace is obtained by chanting this mantra which is as follows:

““Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah”

By chanting the mantras, we get rid of all the negative energy and surround ourselves with positive energy. There is no specific time or place to recite the mantras, but the most important rule while chanting the mantras is to chant them with full devotion and faith then you can see result on your own.

ॐ हराम हरिम ह्रौं सह सूर्याय नमः

ॐ भास्कराय विद्महे महादुत्याथिकराया धीमहि तनमो आदित्य प्रचोदयात

नमः सूर्याय शान्ताय सर्वरोग निवारिणे
आयु ररोग्य मैस्वैर्यं देहि देवः जगत्पते ||

आधित्य ह्रुधाय पुण्यं सर्व सथृ विनासनं
जयावहं जबे नित्यं अक्षयं परमं शिवं
